Seongbuk-gu to Host ‘2026 Seongbuk Chek Mokkoji’ Book Festival to Enhance Local Library Network

Seongbuk-gu in Seoul is set to host the '2026 Seongbuk Chek Mokkoji' (Book Festival) on Sunday, September 6. Under the theme 'Library Network ON, Lighting Up Seongbuk,' this reading culture festival is a collaborative effort involving 17 Seongbuk-gu public libraries, local residents, and various related organizations. The event will take place at the Baram Madang in front of the Seongbuk-gu Office and around the Seongbukcheon Stream Waterfront Vitality Hub, fostering a network where community members can connect and interact through libraries.

A Network Festival Bridging Communities and Libraries

The '2026 Seongbuk Chek Mokkoji' brings together 17 Seongbuk-gu public libraries and the extensive library network they have fostered with local residents and various related institutions. This festival is designed to go beyond mere book access, positioning libraries as central hubs for communication and collaboration within the community.

University departments of library and information science from Seongbuk-gu, along with other reading culture organizations, will participate, contributing their expertise and diverse content. Each library and organization will showcase unique programs tailored to their specialties, further solidifying the festival's role as a network event connecting various community stakeholders through libraries.

Diverse Experiential Programs and Cultural Performances

The festival grounds will host a wealth of engaging programs for visitors from 3 PM to 8 PM. Interactive booths will offer craft activities that link books with daily life, such as making custom pouches, reading lamps, and bookmarks. Creative programs like silk screening, coding, and community map-making will also be available.

Cultural performances are a significant highlight, beginning with busking at 3 PM, followed by an energetic opening performance from the Dream Narae Regional Children's Center choir. The celebration will continue with special performances by the classical ensemble 'Ensemble Kota' and the a cappella group 'Voice Toy,' adding to the festive atmosphere.

Family-Friendly Activities and Participation Events

The '2026 Seongbuk Chek Mokkoji' also features various spaces designed for the entire family to enjoy. The Seongbukcheon Stream Outdoor Library offers a serene setting for reading amidst nature. Additional attractions include a children's playground, an exhibition showcasing the Seongbuk-gu Public Library's Brand Identity (BI), and a four-cut photo booth for creating special memories.

To encourage active participation, several events are planned. Visitors can join a stamp rally by exploring the experiential booths and exhibitions. Engaging in events such as adding the Seongbuk-gu Public Library KakaoTalk channel and completing a satisfaction survey will offer opportunities to receive various prizes, making the festival even more rewarding.
