Daegu Students to Promote Korean Culture Across Australia, the U.S., and the U.K.

The '2026 Korean Language, Style, and Taste Sharing Project,' organized by the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education, will launch its international outreach activities in Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom starting September 12. A total of 85 students from Daegu will serve as cultural ambassadors, showcasing Korean language and heritage on the global stage.

Daegu Office of Education Shares 'Korean Language, Style, and Taste' Globally

The Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education, led by Superintendent Kang Eun-hee, announced that it will launch its '2026 Korean Language, Style, and Taste Sharing Project' across Australia, the U.S., and the U.K. starting September 12. The initiative involves 85 Daegu students dedicated to promoting Korean language and culture worldwide.

The project encompasses five core areas: language, K-pop dance, traditional Korean music (Gugak), Taekwondo, and K-food preparation. Participants are scheduled to visit local schools, host public performances, and operate interactive booths to share Korean culture with international audiences. Now in its third year, the annual exchange program has previously been held in countries including Uzbekistan. Students have been preparing their performance repertoires and booth activities since June and completed a final orientation on September 5.

Australian Delegation Brings Harmonious Mix of K-Pop and Tradition

The 30-member delegation to Australia will visit Xavier College in Sydney from September 12 to 18. Their performances will feature K-pop choreography, such as aespa’s 'Whiplash,' alongside Taekwondo demonstrations, Gayageum recitals, and Pansori (Epic Chant).

Following the performances, students will lead interactive sessions where locals can create mother-of-pearl bookmarks and experience wearing Hanbok. The group will also perform at a special event for the Korean Language Competition hosted by the Korean Education Centre in Sydney and engage with the public through busking sessions in downtown Sydney. This competition is an annual event where local primary and secondary students showcase art and performances centered on Korean language and culture.

U.S. Delegation Targets San Francisco with K-Pop and K-Food

The 26-member delegation to the United States will visit San Francisco from September 13 to 20, with performances at San Francisco State University (SFSU) and Lowell High School. The performance team will present K-pop routines, including Jennie’s 'Like Jennie,' Taekwondo gymnastics, and Haegeum performances, while the culinary team will host tasting events for locals featuring bulgogi (Bulgogi) and bibimbap (Bibimbap).

In addition to these events, the delegation will visit Stanford University and host street performances to promote K-culture.

U.K. Delegation Showcases Korean Charm in Central London

The 29-member delegation to the U.K. will operate in London from September 13 to 19. They are scheduled to perform at St. Pancras International station and Lyric Square in Hammersmith, showcasing K-pop routines like Rosé’s 'APT.' alongside Goryeo Poomsae, Sogo dance, and Daegeum performances. Lyric Square is a prominent public space known for hosting food markets and outdoor summer events.

The group will also run programs for Hangeul calligraphy and wooden board breaking, and host a tasting event featuring Japchae (Stir-fried Glass Noodles and Vegetables) and Tteokbokki (Stir-fried Rice Cake). Their itinerary concludes with a visit to the City of Oxford College for collaborative performances and cultural exchange sessions with local youth.

Students participating in the overseas mission expressed their commitment, stating, "We feel a great sense of pride and responsibility as civilian diplomats representing the culture and flavors of South Korea, and we are determined to showcase the skills we have worked hard to refine."

Superintendent Kang Eun-hee remarked, "This will be a meaningful opportunity for our students to explore and challenge themselves on the global stage, allowing them to realize their limitless potential. I ask for the warm encouragement and support of our citizens as our Daegu students take their first bold steps toward becoming competitive global leaders who embrace a wider world."
